Georgia man facing insurance fraud charges

Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, good people mistakenly make bad decisions without thinking through the consequences. When the mistake results in criminal charges, the consequences can be far-reaching and long-lasting, even if the charges are subsequently dropped. Presenting a strong defense can be one of the ways to fight criminal charges.

Understanding the charges can be the first step in fighting them, which can help in regaining a person's standing in the community. Fraud charges can come in many different forms, including healthcare, insurance or tax fraud. Insurance fraud usually occurs when someone makes a false insurance claim and asking for compensation for losses that were not actually suffered. Selling unlicensed or fraudulent insurance coverage to unsuspecting clients can also constitute insurance fraud. A Georgia man faces insurance fraud charges, among others charges, for allegedly filing claims in unsuspecting policyholder's names.

The 36-year-old man owns an insurance company and is accused of fraudulently charging for workers' compensation policies that were never issued to the policyholders. Instead, he is accused of issuing the innocent policyholder a false certificate of insurance claiming they had coverage.

The Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation Enforcement Division conducted the investigation that led to the Georgia man's arrest and subsequent charges of forgery, providing false statements to a state law enforcement agency and felony insurance fraud. It has been alleged that he netted over $74,000 in workers' compensation payments through the alleged scheme.

Every Georgia resident facing criminal charges is innocent until proven guilty and should take every step possible to aggressively fight the charges they face. One of the ways to do this is to consider all available options.
